The mobile revolution is well and truly upon us with employees using devices such as PDA’s and Blackberries for access to the corporate network. ‘Secure mobility’ is typically defined as the ability to provide employees and customers with secure ‘anytime, anywhere, any device’ access to the corporate network.

By providing employees with secure mobile devices, they have the ability to access information from wherever they are located in the world. Better access to information leads to greater productivity. Secure mobility also provides employees with the flexibility to work from wherever is most convenient to them. Certain governments have introduced regulations supporting the green agenda and work/life balance initiatives. Mobility enables employees to reduce travel, and allows for flexible work patterns in line with changing family or environmental values, hence their carbon footprint.

The ability for customers to interact with your business when they want to, can be the difference between success and failure. When dealing with customer information however, security is absolutely critical. A secure mobile environment can significantly improve the client interface enabling business to be conducted at the client’s convenience regardless of employee location. Mobile technology improves communications and accelerates business processes reducing ‘information float’, or the time it takes for information to be processed between systems.
